South Western Railway First Class

Whether you’re travelling for work, leisure or a bit of both, South Western Railway’s First Class option offers a good level of comfort.

Travelling in First Class with South Western Railway is a great way to kick back and cruise in style, with many of the trains arriving at or departing from London Waterloo featuring First Class carriages.

So, what do you get when you upgrade to First Class? South Western Railway offers slightly more comfortable seats and more places to work while onboard, including tables and pull-down tables. On trains from Axminster, Bournemouth and Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo (and vice versa) that arrive before 10:00 on Monday to Friday, First Class passengers will be treated to a complimentary hot drink and a biscuit from the trolley service.

Taking your bike on South Western Railway trains

Planning a day out on your bike? Or cycling as part of your commute to work? You’re in luck. Taking bikes on trains in the UK is completely free.

There are some restrictions on when you can and can't take your full-sized bike on SWR trains, including:

  • London Waterloo: No full-sized bikes allowed on trains arriving between 07:15 and 10:00, or departing between 16:45 and 19:00 Monday to Friday.
  • Stations between Clapham Junction and Feltham or Strawberry Hill, and on the Hounslow loop: No full-sized bikes allowed on trains departing Clapham Junction between 07:45 and 09:00
  • Stations between Guildford and Ascot: Full-sized bikes allowed at any time

You'll need to make a bike reservation if you're travelling on a South Western Railway service between London Waterloo and Sailisbury or Exeter.

If you’re taking a fold-up bike on board there’s no need for a reservation, but you must be able to carry the bike onto the train and fit it in the luggage rack.
