Jazz Cafe Alto

De Riekermolen Windmill

Closest station: Amsterdam RAI

Homomonument

Closest station: Centraal

Not far from Prik, Colin and Trent, also stopped at the Homomonument for a brief, brave chat. This memorial was created in the 1980s to commemorate all of the LGBTQ community members who have endured or still endure persecution by their governments.

Hotel Prins Hendrik

Closest station: Centraal

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Amsterdam, book a night at the Hotel Prins Hendrik. It’s where Leslie Higgins and Will stopped to pay tribute to jazz musician Chet Baker.

Ted Lasso trivia every fan should know about "Sunflowers"

Was Ted Lasso filmed in Amsterdam?

Yes, the Ted Lasso episode “Sunflowers” was set and filmed in Amsterdam. The majority of the locations were real, including the team’s stop at the Van Gogh Museum and the windmill Roy and Jamie cycled to. Some locations, like the houseboat Rebecca stayed in and the American burger joint Ted ate in, however, were built on sets in London.

Is the American restaurant in Amsterdam in Ted Lasso real?

The American restaurant in Amsterdam in the Ted Lasso “Sunflowers” episode is not real. Anyone who desires an American dining experience in the heart of Amsterdam won’t find The Yankee Doodle Burger Barn, but Burgerbar Kolksteeg or Bar-B Burgers ‘N’ Beers should ease those homesick hunger pangs. Visitors looking for a more authentically Dutch experience, however, should sample Amsterdam's local delicacies and food markets.

What did Ted Lasso drink in Amsterdam?

Ted Lasso enjoyed a night in Amsterdam not unlike other American visitors: he took a hallucinogen. The psychedelic he imbibed was mixed in with a cup of tea, much to Ted’s displeasure. Coach Beard said it was a bad batch, Ted’s night seemed to disprove that theory. Either way, visitors shouldn’t take mushrooms from a bus driver, just to be safe.

Where is the Ted Lasso jazz club from the Amsterdam episode?

The jazz club that Higgins and Will visited in the Ted Lasso Amsterdam episode is called Jazz Cafe Alto. It is a real jazz club that’s hosted nightly jazz concerts every night since 1953. Jazz Cafe Alto is a 12-minute walk from the Van Gogh Museum, another filming location used in the “Sunflowers” Amsterdam episode of Ted Lasso.

What is the significance of the BBQ sauce in Ted Lasso?

Ted Lasso hails from Kansas and viewers will remember way back in season one that a care package from home included a bottle of Arthur Bryant’s barbecue sauce, a sauce Ted calls one of the best in the world. In the Ted Lasso Amsterdam episode, a server at the Yankee Doodle Burger Barn brings Ted a bottle of Arthur Bryant’s because “it’s the best one”. The taste of home triggers a coaching epiphany for Ted: use the Triangle Offense on the pitch, an offensive strategy created in his home state of Kansas.
