Munich Airport, also known as Munich Franz Josef Strauss Airport, is Germany's second busiest airport, after Frankfurt Airport. It’s located around 18 miles northeast of Munich city center, and you can travel there from central Munich by train.

If you’re flying into Germany from abroad, you may land at Munich Airport. You’ll want to get to the city center as soon as you can – and we can tell you how!
Munich Airport has two terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Whichever one you fly into, you’re in luck – from there, you can take an S-Bahn train direct to the city center!
From either Terminal 1 or 2, follow the signs to the S-Bahn station located at the airport. You can take either an S1 or an S8 train from here to the city center. The airport is the starting station of both lines, so just hop on the next departing train. Each service takes a slightly different route to Munich city center, but either way, you’ll get to Munich Hauptbahnhof (Munich’s central train station) in around 40 minutes.
From Munich Hauptbahnhof (Hbf), you can start exploring Munich on foot, catch a train, or transfer to another S-Bahn service to get to another part of the city. S1, S2, S3, S4, S6, S7 and S8 S-Bahn services stop at Munich Central Station.
You can buy a ticket for the S-Bahn from the ticket machines at the airport’s S-Bahn station.
