Situated on Neville Street close to the River Tyne, Newcastle Central station is one of the busiest railway stations in Britain. Queen Victoria opened the historic Grade One listed building in 1850 and in 2014 refurbishment work to enhance the wonderful Victorian architectural features was completed.

Newcastle Central station is close to the Discovery Museum of Science and Local History, the O2 Academy live music venue and the Centre for Life Biotechnology Village.

Newcastle train station is mainly served by LNER, CrossCountry, TransPennine Express and Northern trains. You can easily get from London Kings Cross to Newcastle in 3h 33m on LNER direct services, while you can take a CrossCountry, LNER or TransPennine Express train from Edinburgh to Newcastle in 1h 36m. Northern trains cover the routes from Middlesbrough to Newcastle (1h 17m), Hexham to Newcastle (39m) and Nunthorpe to Newcastle (1h 33m).

Since 25th October 2021, a brand-new train operator called Lumo has been running between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh via the East Coast Main Line, calling at Stevenage, Newcastle and Morpeth. Learn more about Lumo trains.
