The story behind Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte
Few people open a restaurant planning to serve only a single meal, but there aren’t too many like Paul Gineste de Saurs.
This French winemaker wanted to grow beyond his vineyards and came across an opportunity to buy a restaurant space in Paris. Not much of a restaurateur, but certainly someone who loved good food, Paul Gineste de Saurs decided to keep it small and simple: he’d serve only high-quality steak, fries, and salad.
Plus his special sauce, of course.
As for the name? Relais de Venise was the name of the former restaurant in this space and its neon sign still hung outside. The new restauranteur kept his costs low by simply keeping the name and adding “Son Entrecôte”.
Paul Gineste de Saurs didn’t stop with Le Relais de L’Entrecote Paris. L’Entrecote London followed with one location in Marylebone and another in the center of the city. New York City and Mexico City became the first Le Relais de L'Entrecôte locations outside of the European continent.
Since 1959, Le Relais de L'Entrecôte has dished out the same world-famous grilled beef steak, crispy French fries, special sauce, and a crunchy green salad with a mustard vinaigrette and walnuts. No substitutions are accepted but you can order your steak to your liking. You can also add a French wine and dessert if you want to sample their menu from top to bottom.
What food should you order at Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte?
The world-famous Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte is the French restaurant known for having only one menu option: steak and chips (or steak and fries to us Americans). You can order a grilled beef steak to your preferred temperature which comes with fries and a salad.
Is there a Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte in London?
The French restaurant Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte first opened in Paris, selling only steak, fries, and a salad for every meal. L’Entrecôte London opened up in Marylebone, and then an additional location opened up in the center of London. Both have the exact same menu as L’Entrecôte Paris.
Can you book Entrecote London?
Even though L’Entrecôte London is world-famous, you don’t need to be an A-lister to get a table. In fact, you don’t need to make a reservation at all. Entrecôte London is first-come, first-serve, so you’ve got to queue up with the other hungry diners.
Can you make substitutions at Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte?
Sorry, you can’t waltz into Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte Paris, London, New York, or Mexico City and swap your fries for tater tots or get a meat-free steak. Le Relais de Venise is special because it sells only a single steak-frites meal.
