Approaching the majestic Amsterdam Centraal station from the front, you could forgive it for a medieval castle or tourist attraction, worth a photo or two itself. On the inside, the layout is incredibly easy to navigate, with screens displaying departures in Dutch and English. There are a handful of shops around serving fresh food if you fancy a quick bite to eat, and if you need to buy a ticket, you can use the ticket machines to pick one up fast (you can switch the language to English on these). Tickets must be validated when entering and leaving the station, so make sure to tap in and out at the barriers.

There are various train services from Amsterdam Centraal towards Schiphol Airport each day – the one I hopped aboard had already picked up some passengers from elsewhere, but there was still ample room for myself and my luggage. The train itself was bright, spacious and comfortable, with overhead racks for luggage and plenty of legroom. From Amsterdam Centraal, it’s not just Schiphol you can get to – there are tonnes of destinations by train, including even international routes.

The journey to the airport took just over 15 minutes, even with a couple of stops along the way. Once at Schiphol Airport station you can simply tap out at the barriers and head to your terminal! Easy.
